These courses need at least 10 participants if we don't get enough people we will combine 2 courses.

 
 
Relaxed, interactive teaching by experienced natural builders. Many opportunities to discuss design, ask questions and experiment in a supportive environment. We offer training in a host of techniques and time to develop your confidence with a range of hand tools.
 
Example Itinary
 
The First Weekend
Set up camp, explore site, and enjoy meals with fellow course members.
Opportunity to relax and/or help prepare for week ahead. Getting to know each other.
 
Monday
Foundations. Earth moving and drainage. Consider design and personal safety.
Materials. Cordwood, bale and stake preparation.
 
Tuesday
Drystone dampbreak. Cordwood construction. Cob mixing. Insulation properties examined. Bottle bricks and simple carpentry.
 
Wednesday
Reclaimed glazing, alcoves and shelves. Straw bale walls and cob plastering.
 
Thursday
Wood floor tiles with cob infill. Cut entrance through existing roundhouse. Different plaster coats and pigments.
 
Friday
Plenty to finish. Refine techniques. Artistic touches.
 
Final Weekend
Celebrate. Tidy up. Music, big fire and farewell dinner. Swap addresses and future plans.
 
 
The beautiful site is owned by Heartwood housing cooperative and managed by G.E.E.
Tours of existing self build, low impact structures and homes will be possible as well as open discussions on consensus decision making, alternative energy, horse logging, conflict resolution and other systems for a sustainable future.
